Care Merseyside Christmas Party on Granada Reports

Dr Maassarani, Cathy Connolly and the team from Care Merseyside, Merseyside Police, Liverpool Mutual Homes and The Devonshire Hotel come together each year for 3 days of Christmas fun with local older people. Here, Dr Faisal Maassarani explains the concept of social prescribing and why he believes it is so vital for the future of the NHS.

The Big Help Food Club at Care Merseyside

The Big Help Project have created a community food initiative called The Big Help Food Club. This is a makeshift community shop where local people pay £3.50 a week to access a guaranteed 10-15 items. High quality fresh meat, fish, dairy produce, fruit, vegetables, frozen foods, tinned, boxed and packet foods are available each week.

The selection changes week to week, but it gives local people the chance to making real cost savings on their shopping. The Big Help Food Club is set up in a cafe setting allowing the local community to come together and connect. The Big Help and Care Merseyside will be on hand each Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 – 3:30pm when the shop/cafe will be open each week.

Confidential debt advice, employment advice and opportunities, courses and the timetable of Care Merseyside’s social prescription events will be showcased each week for those local people looking for additional support.

Drumming Up Confidence Classes at Care Merseyside

Part of our social prescription programme at Care Merseyside includes activities linked to music and the arts. This is the Drumming Up Confidence course, facilitated by Rhythm Reaction and supported by Wellbeing Enterprises. Drumming Up Confidence is a wonderful way to learn something new, test your creative side with music and rhythm and also release a bit of tension as you bash out the beats!

Makeup Mastery Courses at Care Merseyside

“Makeup makes you feel good” as Cathy Connolly from Care Merseyside says. We are all about empowering people to feel good so why not teach people the skills of makeup?

Our graduates leave with the confidence to apply their own makeup, and their friends and family too (having a positive knock on effect!). Many of our latest intake have been inspired to look further into beauty qualifications with a view to working in the beauty sector. We are so pleased and proud of them!
